Visa Requirements and Other Nationalities
Nepali and Indian citizens do not need a visa. Under the 1950 India–Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, citizens of both countries travel freely between them.
For every sector other than Nepal and India, a passport is mandatory for all passengers. Travellers who are neither Nepali nor Indian citizens need a valid passport and an Indian visa, and the passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of travel. Anyone whose journey begins in or passes through China, Hong Kong, Macau or Pakistan requires an Indian visa to enter India.
Important for onward travel. Nepali passport holders flying onward from India to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Libya or Lebanon must carry a No Objection Certificate from the Nepal Embassy if their port of boarding is in India. This does not apply if you are checked through from Kathmandu as a direct transit passenger, which is one good reason to book the whole journey as a single itinerary rather than as separate tickets.
India e-Arrival Card
Since 1 April 2026 India has replaced the paper disembarkation card with a digital e-Arrival Card. Foreign nationals arriving in India are required to complete it online before they travel, and paper forms are no longer handed out on board or accepted at the airport.
